In an effort to help schools impacted by Hurricane Harvey, our school has adopted two schools in the Houston area in order to assist them with their recovery efforts.  The two schools are C.E. King High School and Dean Middle School.  Both schools are in need of basic materials such as school supplies, toiletries, and clothing.  Gift cards will also be helpful.  Collection bins have been set up in the middle school and high school offices.  Please donate what you can in order to assist the students and teachers of our adopted schools.  If you are donating a gift card, please give the card directly to one of the administrative assistants in either the middle school or high school office.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month here is your fact for today: The first Latina to become an astronaut, Ellen Ochoa is a veteran of four space flights and today serves as the director of NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Born in Los Angeles, she is also a pilot and classical flutist, and has three patents to her name. Her many awards include NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal, Exceptional Service Medal and Outstanding Leadership Medal.

Today is the International Day of Peace. Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. This year for Peace Day students have created a "tree of peace" in the cafeteria which focuses on ways we can "grow" peace in our community.

Today’s lunch is nachos with ground beef and cheese.
