Prize-Winning Woodworking Project
Mahar Senior Joshua Johnson recently won first prize in an international "Youth Only Wood Art" competition held in Ontario, Canada. The wooden box is constructed entirely of wood--teak and oak. The corners are dovetail joints, and the top is inlaid. No metal fasteners are used anywhere in the construction--even the hinges are made completely of wood. Wood Arts Teacher John Kelley is shown here with Joshua. Below are two pictures of Joshua's latest project, still under construction--an inlaid box featuring a completely functional lock and key set made entirely of wood. This is another project by one of Mr. Kelley's students--this "intarsia" project features over 800 pieces of walnut, teak, cherry, oak, and maple with no stains used.
