Peer Mediation – In collaboration with Quabbin Mediation, Mahar offers Peer Mediation programming to all students. 8th and 9th grade students have the opportunity to apply to be Peer Mediators and training seminars take place for students every other year. Peer Mediators are called upon during the school day to address issues among students and through their important roles, serve as peer leaders in the school.
Career Exploration – Each fall, Mahar’s 8th grade Guidance Counselor hosts a workshop for students geared toward early career exploration. Using a youth-friendly component of the Massachusetts Career Information System (MassCIS) website, students are led through a decision making process where they identify factors that are important to them in a potential career. As a result, students identify potential career paths and learn which courses would be important for them to take in high school that would support these goals for the future.
