March 26, 2020 - School Closure Update
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
Yesterday, Governor Baker announced that schools across the Commonwealth will not open any sooner than May 4, 2020. As you know, with this extended closure, students continue to miss a significant amount of class time. To help lessen the impact of this missed time, all teachers have been working very hard to provide students with enrichment activities through our E-learning/Google Classroom platform so they can maintain continuity in their education. I strongly encourage parents and guardians to work with their children to access and complete these enrichment activities. By not accessing and completing the enrichment activities, students are running the risk of having an even greater gap in their education when classes resume. At some point in time, hopefully on May 4th, school will reopen and we will continue to educate your child as we have in the past. As educators, we want to do our best to minimize this gap and to make sure your child is ready to return when school does reopen.
In addition, we need to begin preparing for next year's classes and we need your help. In order to schedule incoming high school students in the appropriate classes, we are asking that parents/guardians and students contact their child's respective guidance counselor through email to schedule a virtual meeting so you can discuss next year's classes. Virtual appointments with guidance counselors will be conducted between Monday, March 30th through Friday, April 17th. If your child is going to be in high school next year, it is extremely important that you contact their guidance counselor through email to set up a virtual scheduling meeting. Incoming high school students who do not set up virtual scheduling meeting with their guidance counselor during the next three weeks, will have their schedules determined by their guidance counselor. You can visit our school's website a www.rcmahar.org for a list of email addresses.
Finally, within the next week, you will be receiving a phone call from your child's advisory teachers so the school can conduct a brief survey relative to technology access. Please be aware that the phone number may appear as an unknown number on your caller ID. We ask that you take a few minutes to speak with your child's advisory teacher so we can collect some important information.
Thank you.Scott A. HemlinHigh School Principal
